News Assignment

Q RUNNING HEAD: News assignment Find a written news article from a reliable source (no blogs or opinion pieces), that describes a social, economic, or political conflict. Some suggestions for reliable sources are the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, BBC, The Economist, Foreign Affairs, PBS, Politico, Atlantic, New Yorker, CNN, NBC, Associated Press, Reuters, Bloomberg News, CBS, or ABC. We have discussed many issues in the lectures and in the textbook. Look for a topic you are interested in. The articles must have an author, date, news source, and title. Most professional, journalistic articles are 500-700 words. Please get my approval of the article before beginning (Approval deadline by July 12th). Write a short paper (2-3 pages, double spaced) including ALL of the following: 1) Briefly describe the conflict. Do not re-write the article by copying and pasting quotes or information. I want to see if you have actually read and understood the article. I will read the article first so please extract only the conflict from the story in your own words. This should only take 1-3 paragraphs. (worth 2 points). 2) Explain what kind of sources the author used to support the content. Examples of types of sources are- data, public opinion poll results, research, actual events, quotes from experts, court cases, justices opinions in settled court cases, scientific research, research gathered by experts, peer-reviewed research. Do not re-write or include any quotes. Many times there is only one side of an issue (What actually happened), however, if there is more than one side presented, explain and show if the article offers reliable sources supporting all sides. (worth 3 points) 3) Lastly, describe the conflict in terms of the constitution (what part of the constitution does the issue relate to). Be sure to include the specific part of the constitution (ex: Article I Section 8, the necessary and proper clause, a specific Amendment, Article IV, Section 1, the Full Faith and Credit Clause, or the powers of each branch of government found in Article I, II, & III...) If there is more than one, please discuss all applicable articles, clauses, or amendments. (worth 4 points) 4). Include a link to the news article with the assignment (worth 1 point). Without the link, I cannot grade the assignment as I must read the article first to see if you actually read it and understood it too. Please double-space. * The assignment is to see how well you can read something and decipher if the writer is using fact-based sources or writing things that are not backed up with evidence used in professional journalism. You can spot this if the writing says things like, 'some people think' or 'someone believes' or `a lot of people say...', sentences like that. Turn in online by July 14th @ 11:59pm

The main conflict described in the article is the attack on the Capitol and there was an assault to the Congress by a mob that was ignited by former President Donald Trump. This led to the demand for immediate impeachment of Donald Trump and the invocation of the 25th Amendment. The Democrats were absolutely for the impeachment and Ms Pelosi and Senator Chuck Schumer of New York wanted Donald Trump’s immediate resignation from the Presidential office. The impeachment idea did get a lot of support even from his own Republican Party from prominent officials and business groups like John F Kelly, Michael Chertoff and many more officials.
